Atlantic Features: How Time & Tide Clocks Work The Earth rotates through these two tidal bulges causing two HIGH tides and two LOW tides every Lunar day. A Lunar day is 24 hours and 50 minutes long. This is longer than a solar day (24 hours) because the Moon revolves around the Earth in the same direction as the Earth rotates. It takes a little longer until the Moon is over the same position. Since the Moon has the greatest effect on the tides, ALL tide clocks are synchronized to the Lunar day and will indicate a HIGH tide every 12 hours and 25 minutes (two times per Lunar day). Think of it this way:
One of these factors is that the large continental land masses interfere with the Westward travel of the tidal bulge and this causes many complex tidal cycles, especially on the West coast of North America. Ocean floor topography, bays and narrow inlets can cause resonance effects and even weather conditions can alter the timing of the tidal cycle. For these reasons, Tide clocks will be more accurate in some areas than others. Tide clocks can only be accurate in the red areas

Aston Martin in talks with Mercedes for engine supply
Thu, 09 May 2013It has seemed for some time that Aston Martin’s wish-list for future engines revolved around Mercedes. They currently use a V12 developed from Ford’s Mondeo V6 and a V8 that’s a development of the 4.2 litre that was in Jaguars (and Range Rovers) until a few years ago, but new engines (and new platforms) are vital if Aston are to remain competitive. Before the recent investment in AML by Investindustrial, there were plans for Aston to use both engines and platforms from Mercedes (the Lagonda SUV was built on the underpinnings of the Mercedes GL) and even the possibility that Aston Martin would design and build the next generation Maybach.
Bentley Zagato GTZ – back in production
Fri, 19 Feb 2010The Bentley Zagato GTZ is back in 'Production' It’s now two years since Zagato announced they were building the Bentley GTZ, a Zagato-bodied Bentley Continental GT Speed. They made the announcement at the Geneva Motor Show back in 2008 and we later discovered that they were intending building just nine cars, each of which would cost a barking mad £850,000. But despite the announcement that Zagato were going to build nine Bentley GTZs, it looks like only one or two were made.
Phil McNamara's 2010 LA Auto Show report
Thu, 18 Nov 2010Optimism. California was built on it, and the first press day of the Los Angeles auto show was mired in thick, gloopy, ‘we’re going to save/conquer the world’ with cars rhetoric. Mercedes saw no irony whatsoever in announcing 200 deliveries of the zero emission hydrogen fuel cell B-class, then without missing a beat unveiling the 550hp CLS63 AMG, with huge increases in power and torque.
