Project Car Hell: BMW-powered Opel Olympia vs. Aston-equipped Singer Nine
Fri, 14 Oct 2011Editor's note: When you can't fit your newly acquired basket-case Jeep FC150 in the garage because you have an Autocar Sussita and a 1928 Studebaker President chassis buried beneath crates of Subaru 360 parts, you're in Project Car Hell. Our friend Murilee Martin is here to oil up the gates to Automotive Hades, bringing the series back with a couple of you'd-hafta-be-outta-your-mind hypothetical engine-swap projects. And be sure to check back for fresh installments of Project Car Hell every week.
One Lap of the Web: Happy birthday, John DeLorean, a legally imported Nissan Skyline, Amphicar for sale and the Righini Collection
Mon, 06 Jan 2014-- Bust out the candles: American success story, visionary futurist and import/export whiz John DeLorean was born this day in 1925. Everyone knows about his battle to launch the DeLorean Motor Company, but the man behind the stainless-steel legend had a long career as a brilliant engineer that included time at Chrysler, Packard and General Motors. And while we might not all be driving DeLoreans today, we're still talking about both the man and the company -- which is pretty impressive when you think about it.
McLaren F1 GTR Longtail sells at Gooding & Co for $5.28 million
Mon, 20 Jan 2014McLaren F1 GTR Longtail (pictured) sells at Gooding & Co for $5.28 million Even with the arrival of the new McLaren P1, the ultimate supercar is still the McLaren F1. The McLaren F1 is one of rarest of the more modern supercars, and McLaren produced just 64 road going F1s in addition to a number of racing versions, with the F1 GTR Longtail the last, and rarest, of the breed. So the arrival of a McLaren F1 GTR Longtail on the auction block at Gooding & Co’s sale in Scottsdale raised expectations of a possible record-breaking price for the GTR Longtail, with pre-sale estimates putting the price between $5 and $7 million.
