TRUE VINTAGE ORIGINAL 1968-69 FORD 427 "SERVICE MARINE" MOTOR!



THIS IS ONE OF A PAIR OF MATCHING MOTORS I ACQUIRED SOME YEARS BACK (CHECK MY OTHER AUCTIONS FOR THE MATE)!


THE STORY I GOT WITH THESE MOTORS WAS THAT THEY WERE IN TANDEM IN A LARGE OCEAN GOING BOAT, WHEN ONE OF THEM QUIT, AND THEY BROUGHT THE BOAT HOME WITH THE OTHER ONE!


WHEN I PULLED THE NON-RUNNING MOTOR DOWN, I NOTICED THAT IT APPEARED THAT THE SALT WATER IN THE COOLING SYSTEM HAD ATE AWAY PART OF THE ORIGINAL STEEL HEAD GASKET BETWEEN THE WATER JACKET AND THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER, AND THEN WHEN THEY SHUT THE MOTOR OFF, COOLING WATER RAN BACK INTO THE CYLINDER!


SO THEN, WHEN THEY TRIED TO START THE MOTOR, THEY GOT A "HYDRAULIC LOCK" THAT SPLIT THE CYLINDER WALL!


LIKE I SAID BEFORE, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY BROUGHT THE BOAT HOME ON JUST THE POWER OF THE OTHER MOTOR, AND THEN UPGRADED THE BOAT WITH A PAIR OF NEW "MERCRUISER" 350 CHEVIES!


AS EVIDENCED BY THE STOCK STEEL HEAD GASKETS, AND STANDARD BORE ON THE SHORTBLOCK, I'M GUESSING THAT THESE MOTORS HAVE NEVER BEEN TORN DOWN BEFORE, AND ARE PROBABLY ALL STANDARD DIMENSIONS INSIDE!


I'VE HAD THESE "SERVICE MARINE" MOTORS BEFORE, AND MY EXPERIENCE WITH THEM IS THAT BESIDES THE SALT-WATER BEING IN THE COOLING SYSTEM, THESE MOTORS ARE USUALLY IN VERY NICE SHAPE INSIDE, AS THEY ARE USED MOSTLY IN LOW RPM, AND LOW HORSEPOWER APPLICATIONS!

Is the Jaguar XFR-S on the way?

Is the Jaguar XFR-S on the way (2012 XFR pictured) New reports suggest that the Jaguar XFR-S – a more powerful XFR with the output of the XKR-S – is close to production. Last summer we reported that a Jaguar XFR-S was being planned (actually, we also said a Jaguar XJR-S was in the planning too) in order to take the fight back to the Germans, with the latest iterations of the BMW M5 and Mercedes E63 AMG now offering more power than the XFR can muster. The idea of a more powerful XFR wasn’t just wild speculation (or an educated guess as to what Jaguar needed to do to keep in touch with German rivals) but was also based on Adrian Hallmark’s comments that it would be nice to take the power upgrades on the XKR-S and extend them to the XF.

BMW has announced prices for its M Performance limited-run editions of the M3 coupe and M5 supersaloon. Brace yourself: both command around a £20,000 premium over the standard versions. The M3 comes in at £74,080, and the M5 is £95,140.

Ferrari apologizes for employee filmed doing donuts in China

Ferrari issued an apology on Wednesday after one of its employees was filmed doing donuts in a 458 Italia 20th Anniversary Special Edition on the 600-year-old Ming Dynasty wall in the city of Nanjing. The online community has been up in arms, with users of Wiebo, China's version of Twitter, being allowed to complain the loudest. Much of the anger was directed at the Chinese government, which rented the wall for the occasion at a cost of $12,000.
