This is our Level 1 kit with a better 1st gear. This is the same friction set up as the 4L70E but with better frictions. This kit contains the best of all manufacturers because no one manufacture makes the one perfect friction for all clutches in this transmission. We include the best Alto Red Eagle, Raybestos GPZ and Borg Warner high static brown for reverse. Each automatic transmission clutch has characteristics that require different friction material. Through years experience we have found staying with the factory engineered design and installing improved parts we can build very strong transmissions. Level 1 Detailed Description:
At Trutech Performance Transmission we are proud to provide only the best parts to our customers. Our Street Performer Overhaul Modules are very complete with all parts necessary to overhaul your transmission with upgraded clutches and band. We have included parts necessary to restore hydraulic integrity to your transmission to help ensure long clutch life. This is a custom overhaul module not available from any other supplier. Your transmission will be capable of supporting up to a 450 horsepower (non nitrous) engine.
This kit is complete with Alto Red Eagle Forward and overrun frictions including a 7 friction Raybestos GPZ high energy setup for the 3-4 clutch. The steel kit includes thick kolene 3-4 steels plus turbulatolow/reverse and reverse input steels. The 3-4 steels have been kolene treated. Kolene treatment is a thermochemical diffusion process, whereby ferrous parts are processed in molten salt with a specific nitrogen potential. This process provides a surface treatment that enhances wear and fatigue resistance from 200% to 500%. Also included is a complete bushing kit with the Teflon coated front pump bushing, the apply and backing plate necessary for proper 3-4 clutch clearance, three bonded input drum pistons with updated overrun spring, high energy 2-4 band, 3rd accumulator check valve, new 3-4 load release replacement springs and OEM filter.
In the 4L60 type transmission the 3-4 clutch is contained in the input drum. The clutch is applied when hydraulic fluid moves the 3-4 piston causing the 3-4 apply ring to engage the clutch. Over the years all these parts have been updated by General Motors. In an automatic transmission it has been proven if you increase the number of frictions in a clutch set up you can increase the torque handling capability of that particular clutch. One issue with this theory, to increase the number of frictions the steels must be thinner to get proper clearance. The 3-4 clutch in this transmission does not work well with thin steels because of the inability to dissipate heat causing the steels to warp. General Motors went from a five friction setup in 1982 to a seven friction set up with six thick steels in the later model 4L65/70E heavy duty transmissions. However, in the standard 4L60E transmission up to 2010 model year GM used a six friction setup. All Trutech Overhaul Modules contain the 4L65/70E seven friction, six "thick" steel clutch components. To install this clutch correctly we have included all the additional factory parts necessary to achieve proper clutch clearance. One additional benefit to this Overhaul Module, we have included turbulator steels for low reverse and reverse input clutches. Turbulator steels are designed with holes strategically cut into the steel. The holes prevent a temporary fluid coupling in the reverse clutches that would cause the reverse and forward clutches to be engaged at the same time. All OEM parts included in our Overhaul Module are high quality and meet or exceed factory specification.
To ensure hydraulic integrity our Overhaul Module contains three updated steel molded input drum pistons. Because of changes to the overrun piston the overrun spring must be updated with the ACDelco spring included in the module. There is one check valve that is very important to 3-4 clutch life. This check valve is the 3rd accumulator check valve. This valve has a direct effect on 3-4 clutch operation. We include this check valve in all our kits, we consider this low cost insurance.
In this General Motors transmission bushings play a large part in hydraulic integrity. In a lot of rebuilds, the bushings are not replaced if they "look" good. Our recommendation is replace all bushings in your overhaul.
In the 4L60 type transmission the band is applied to move the vehicle forward in the 2nd and 4th gear range. There have been many improvements to this one component. We have found the Raybestos high energy band is an excellent choice in street driven high performance or heavy duty applications. This band is included in our overhaul module. In our High Performance Build Modules we use the extra wide carbon band with heavy duty anchors. When using this extra wide band we strongly recommend replacing the reverse input drum to give the band a new wear surface. Replacing the drum is always a good idea but not always necessary when using the stock width band. Do not reuse the drum if it is discolored from heat or is warped in the band apply area.

The decision to disband Mercedes-Benz’s upper luxury marque comes after a decade of disappointing sales for the Maybach 57 and 62 and a recent decision from the German car maker’s chairman Dieter Zetsche not to push ahead with the development replacement models – the likes of which were tentatively due out in 2014 – owing to what one insider describes as a “positive move to focus greater attention on the Mercedes-Benz brand” . “We’ve come to the conclusion that it is better to cut our losses with Maybach than to continue into an uncertain future with a brand that has failed to live up to original sales expectations," the insider said.
