New Mercedes S-Class Magic Body Control – invented by Chickens

Thu, 26 Sep 2013

New Mercedes S-Class Magic Body Control: Invented by Chickens Whatever you think of the new Mercedes S-Class (Merchant Bankers car?), and whatever you think of Mercedes name for its clever suspension tech – Magic Body Control – you have to be impressed by the technology. Yes, Magic Body Control might sound like a cheesy Paul Daniels magic trick or an undergarment for ladies of a certain age, but what it does is far more impressive than anything Paul Daniels or the makers of supportive lingerie can muster. A camera on top of the windscreen scans the road ahead on Mercedes cars fitted with MBC looking for lumps and bumps in the way and sends that data to the suspension to set it up for the best possible ride.

Ivan “Ironman” Stewart’s high-speed lifestyle of flying through the desert, leaving a rooster tail of dust, is taking a turn down a calmer, gentler road. Stewart, 64, is ready to slow things down and create more time for himself and his family. “I’m not retiring,” he insists, “just changing directions.” Last weekend he sold his off-road racing truck business and everything that goes along with it.

Video: GM's Frank Saucedo, Niki Smart and Gael Buzyn on the Elmiraj concept

Fri, 16 Aug 2013

GM director advanced design Frank Saucedo features in a new video explaining the design process behind the new Elmiraj concept. Saucedo, who oversaw the concept's development at GM's advanced design studio in North Hollywood, California, talks about how the Elmiraj – the second in a series of three concept cars that began with last's year Ciel – is a study of how they can progress and evolve the carmaker's ‘Art and Science' design philosophy. GM's interior design manager Gael Buzyn and exterior design manager Niki Smart also feature, with Smart explaining how the Elmiraj concept is focused on the notion of ‘the drive' and has been designed to reflect dynamism while the Ciel was about ‘the journey', represented by a luxurious interior.
