Our favourite so far has been the Audi A1 e-Tron, which may seem odd to those of you who know of our penchant for the fast and exotic. But hybrid cars are best suited to urban environments – even more so electric cars – and the Audi A1 e-Tron’s combination of electric motors and a range-extending Wankel engine really floated our urban boat.

If it matters, official economy is 21.4mpg and emissions 308g/km. Standard specification includes nappa leather and Alcantara for the AMG performance steering wheel, designo black leather with red stitching, AMG mats, B&O BeoSound AMG, red seat belts, 19″ alloys at the front and 20″ alloys at the back, carbon fibre mirrors, red brake calipers and AMG GT badges.

However, the iconic name won't vanish from the nation's roads despite the £280 million sale to investors. The business, which employs around 5,000 people and operates 2,300 vehicles, will be led by the founder's youngest son, William Stobart.
