Silverstone Classic 2014 preview

By James Clark Motor Shows 21 July 2014 07:00 Along with Goodwood’s Revival and the Donington Historic Festival, the Silverstone Classic is one of the largest and most popular historic racing events on the global calendar. The 2014 Silverstone Classic promises to be as spectacular as ever, so CAR has helpfully highlighted the races, cars and drivers you should keep an eye on. The Group C prototype race will be one of the most popular of the weekend, with the 80s icons making their only UK appearance of 2014.

Range Rover Sport (2014) [w/Gallery]

This is the new, second-generation Range Rover Sport, unveiled at the New York Auto Show. While the first Sport – introduced in 2005 – was a tentative toe in the water for a second Range Rover model line, this new model forms the center of a three-model range, between Evoque and full-fat Range. At 4,850mm long it's 62mm longer than the car it replaces but 149mm shorter than the new Range Rover, while its wheelbase has grown by 178mm to increase rear access – particularly important as there's now the provision of a pair of occasional seats in a third row.

BAC Mono

Another name to emerge amidst the numerous English niche manufacturers, are Briggs Automotive. Taking the fight to cars like the Aerial Atom and Caparo T1, the BAC Mono is a lightweight carbon fiber tubbed single seater, proving that once again less is more in terms of performance. Boasting a kerb weight of just 540kg, the single seat ‘ultra high performance, road legal sports vehicle' was produced using race-bred technology in order to deliver a purist driving experience.
