Renault Captur compact SUV prices revealed – costs from £12,495
Tue, 23 Apr 2013But by the time Renault had run their Captur Concept through the inevitable watering down concepts from mainstream car makers suffer, it turned in to a Clio with rufty-tufty bits and a higher ride height. Enter the production version of the Renault Captur at the start of 2013 and its subsequent debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Now Renault has revealed prices for the Captur, and its costs from £12,495 for the entry-level Expression trim with the TCe 90 engine, rising to £18,895 for the Dynamique S Media Nav with the dCi 90 engine and auto ‘box.
Hyundai Suicide ‘Advert’ causes a rumpus
Fri, 26 Apr 2013It’s not easy advertising your wares and finding the right balance between mainstream and innovative to capture attention, as Hyundai has found out to their cost with an ‘advert’ for the hydrogen powered ix35 FCEV which, rather distastefully, depicts a man trying to commit suicide by running a hose from the tailpipe to the cabin before realising he can’t achieve his aim as the FCEV’s only emissions are water. It’s a proper cock-up from Hyundai – usually so sure-footed with their PR – but, despite Hyundai US putting the blame at the door of Hyundai UK, there’s more to this suicide ‘advert’ than meets the eye. It seems the suicide video was put together by Innocean – a European Ad Agency owned by Hyundai’s Chairman Chung Mong-koo and his daughter, and responsible for much of Hyundai’s marketing output – and was a clumsy attempt to gauge reaction to the somewhat macabre take on the benefits of an FCEV.
Vette plant to build high-performance engines
Wed, 30 Jan 2013General Motors is moving its Performance Build Center, which let enthusiasts pay $5,000-plus to build the high-performance engine for their Chevrolet Corvette, from Michigan to the Corvette assembly plant in Bowling Green, Ky. The move is expected to be completed by spring 2014. It will let a Corvette buyer build his own engine, with help from a GM technician, and then see it installed in his car as it goes down the Bowling Green assembly line.
