Mark Vaughn: We’ll always have Vegas

There were a few bare spots on the floor of the Consumer Electronics Show this year, spots that in previous years had been jammed sardine-like with myriad Taiwanese makers of Hello Kitty knockoff cell phone cozies and electronic barking dogs, but the show this year was nonetheless pretty well attended. Besides, for those working their way upstream through the aisles like so many digitally trained trout, the empty spots left by exhibitors that pulled out were like refreshing mountain meadows or little piazzas in crowded Italian cities. Show management stocked the open spots with cushy couches, too, on which many a jet-lagged showgoer snoozed.

In 1981 we got Charles & Di mugs and plates (actually, there was a definite crockery theme going on) and maybe the odd flag to flutter with the Union Flag and a couple of mug shots.

Mazda RX-8 gets an update – in Japan

Mon, 25 May 2009

Mazda has updated the RX-8 in Japan with new colours and extra equipment [ad#ad-1] Well, it does make sense to update your cars in your home market first, so the updates to the Mazda RX-8 for the Japanese market announced today are almost certain to come to UK cars before long. Just like the updates Mazda made to the MX-5 in Japan were followed by updates to the Mazda MX-5 UK spec car shortly after. Despite the fact that the Mazda RX-8 is not the best-selling car in the world, it does have an awful lot going for it.
