A rare surviving relic from the early hot rod era. An original, circa. 1950's Degree Wheel Indicator sold by The Honest Charley Speed Shop.

I acquired this recently from the estate of a longtime speedshop owner and drag racer (Jan Riedel of Riverside Engines; Tiffin, Ohio). Who believed it was purchased new around 1956 or 1957. The '56-57 HC catalog however, indicates they company had just moved into a new headquarters at 3813 Rossville Blvd. in Chattanooga, while this still has the old address on McCallie Ave. printed in the trademark Honest Charley illustrated advertising and text.

Also, in the 56-57 catalog, the images of the degree wheel indicator on offer don't have the illustrations this one has. I would guess this to be somewhere around 1955, since Riedel seemed pretty certain of his memory about when he bought it. Here's the text from the 56-57 catalog about this item:

"For precision setting of HI-POWER CAMS AT GRINDING SPECIFICATIONS FOR TOP PERFORMANCE IDLING AND POWER. COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS WITH EACH WHEEL."

The wheel's cost was $9.95 in 1956-57.

It measures approximately 12" in diameter. It no longer lays flat, but would be a tremendous display piece or addition to any collection.

Please send along any questions and thanks for looking. FREE USPS Priority Mail shipment to the USA. A vintage HC sticker is also included.
