Some secured lenders object to quick sale of Chrysler

A minority group of Chrysler LLC secured lenders has objected in bankruptcy court to the quick sale of Chrysler to a new corporate entity led by Fiat S.p.A. The group of about 40 banks and hedge funds holds about $3 billion of the $6.9 billion in secured loans that Chrysler has with the banks. Four major New York banks holding $4 billion of that debt agreed last week to settle for $2 billion in payment for the $6.9 billion owed.

AutoWeek's Keith Crain receives Mercedes Star Driver award

AutoWeek editor-in-chief Keith Crain recently received the Star Driver award from Mercedes-Benz, an honor that recognizes an individual who has made great contributions to motorsports and the automobile industry. Crain, shown at left with Geoff Day, director of communications at Mercedes-Benz USA, is the sixth recipient of the Star Driver honor. Mitsubishi bringing i MiEV Sport Air concept to Geneva

Mitsubishi will show another iteration of its sporty micro-size electric car with the debut of the i MiEV Sport Air concept at the Geneva motor show in March. Building on the i MiEV Sport, which we first saw at the Tokyo motor show in 2007, Mitsubishi adds a clear removable roof and slight alterations to the front fascia. A lithium-ion battery powers three magnetic synchronous motors--one in each front wheel and one to drive both rear wheels--with an all-wheel control system managing stability and traction control, and ABS for optimal stability and performance.
