McLaren MP4-12C (2011): new testing video

Tue, 23 Feb 2010

McLaren has issued this new video of its 2011 MP4-12C in the final phases of testing – and McLaren claims it's faster than the 458 Italia or any Gallardo. Watch the video in our player at the foot of this page. The matt black vinyl disguise demarks this pair of cars as the latest McLaren 'XP Beta' test cars, compared with the earlier black-and-white 'XP' prototypes spied last year.'XP Beta' prototypes? All very McLaren!Quite.

Pagani Huayra in Purple with Tricolour Calipers (video)

Sun, 11 Nov 2012

We have video of what looks like a new build Pagani Huayra, still plastic wrapped, in purple with Italian Tricolour brake calipers. That’s because the Pagani Huayra has not, as far as we can tell, managed to get a European Certificate of Conformity or managed to be Federalised for the US, so sales are impossible. But Pagani are still producing a few cars – although they’ve probably built more Zondas in the last two years than Huayras – but it looks like this Huayra – caught on video outside Pagaini’s premises in Modena – is a new build.

Formula 1 2012: The Cars [w/video]

Tue, 07 Feb 2012

Nine of the 12 Formula 1 teams have released images and details of their cars for the 2012 World Championship as the first day of pre-season testing draws to a close at the Jerez circuit in Spain. Motor sport may fall slightly outside of Car Design News' usual remit, but the big story this year is the new 'stepped nose', which all teams bar McLaren have introduced to comply with new safety regulations, much to the chagrin of aestheticists. And with designers such as Daniel Simon (he produced the livery for HRT last season) and Peter Stevens (most notable for the Brabham cars of the 1980s) involved with the sport over the years, it's always interesting to check out the season's new machines.
