The irony in this car arriving stems from the trouble that the German maker has faced in the US – where VW board members have blamed long model cycles with minor facelifts such as this – as the reason why sales fell and its North America boss stepped down late last year. At least the new Polo brings some welcome changes under that barely-changed sheetmetal.

Ford Start Concept – Beijing

Ford will unveil the Start Concept - a global city car - at the Beijing Motor Show We really didn’t see this coming – at least not yet – but Ford have pulled off a surprise ahead of the Beijing Motor Show by unveiling a Global City Car – the Ford Start Concept. We’re pretty sure this really is just a concept – although no doubt a direction pointer for Ford’s aspirations - but the 3-pot Ecoboost engine in the Ford Start is definitely not a concept engine. Peugeot 407 Coupe (2009) drops petrol engines

The reworked 2.0-litre unit improves in economy and power, but the big news is a new 3.0-litre V6, which will be Peugeot’s most powerful production engine ever. The V6 unit was a joint development by PSA and Ford, and produces 241bhp and a hefty 331lb ft of torque between 1600 and 3600rpm.
