If you think that every little nut, bolt, switch, gear or widget in your new car wasn't scrutinized by a team of highly educated, overworked car geeks (read: engineers), think again. A couple of recent conversations with automotive engineers confirmed that virtually nothing that goes into a car today is taken for granted. During the recent Pebble Beach weekend, I had the pleasure of spending time with an engineer for Jaguar, and the subject turned to materials used for various switches in the cabin.

Alfa's North America return pushed to 2013

Alfa Romeo's return to North America has been delayed at least a half year partly because Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne is not satisfied with the design of the cars that will lead the brand's comeback in the crucial market, people with direct knowledge of the matter told Automotive News Europe. The delay also is a serious blow to Alfa in Europe because without the Giulia mid-sized sedan and station wagon the automaker will have one of the weakest premium brand lineups in Europe. What We Drive: 1963 Pontiac Star Chief

I wouldn't say it was a sad hunk of Detroit iron, but the 1963 Pontiac Star Chief definitely looked lonely when I discovered it in a Michigander's backyard while delivering pizzas. It wasn't covered, and there was no For Sale sign, but I could tell it needed a home. The paint on the side of the car was in good condition, as far as I could tell.
