vtg 1940s Chevron Standard Oil V-BAR Car Tire Chains, Cloth Bag V-1811 WEED

Be sure to scroll down to see more photos. If you have any questions, please email me.

Research has shown that these probably were made in the late 1940s or early 1950s.

This is a set of WEED brand tire chains, sold under the Chevron, Standard Oil label. WEED chains were made by the American Chain & Cable Company, York, PA. On the bag is “CHEVRON V-Bar Tire Chains, One Pair, Stock No. V-1811, Type RP. Your get the chains (marked WEED) on the fasteners, the original cloth bag, and 1 spring chain tighteners.

These chains fit the following tire sizes: 7.00-14, 6.40-15, 6.50-15. The actual length of the chains are about 60 inches, and the width is about 13 inches. The chains have been used some, but are in excellent condition, with no rust. The red fasteners are in perfect condition. These are the actual chains that were in the bag.

The cloth bag measures about 9.5 inches wide by 14.75 inches tall not counting the draw string. There are some very small holes in the bag from the chains rubbing on the cloth. There are a few minor stains. Overall, I would say the bag is in very good condition. The bag is printed on both sides.

This is in surprisingly good condition considering its age, and what it is. This would look great in the trunk of that classic old auto you have at the next car show you go to. If you only want the cloth bag, deduct $8.00 from the final price.

I try to describe items as best I can through research and personal knowledge. If I have made a mistake in the description, or if anyone wishes to enlighten me more about this, I would appreciate it so I can pass it along.

Please view all the photos and e-mail any questions you may have. I try and let my photos show actual condition of the item. Be cautious of light glare or flash glare in photos. Please read the text of this entire auction. Small print may save big headaches.

If you pay directly from the auction page or eBay end-of-auction email, I WILL refund your money. International buyers MUSTpay DIRECTLY from the PayPal Invoice / Money Request email that will be sent to you from PayPal. Also, Import Duties, Taxes and other possible charges are not included in the item price, or in the shipping and handling costs. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your local customs office to determine what these additional costs may be, prior to bidding. These charges (if any) are generally collected by your local Postal Service when you pick the item up. Please do not confuse them as additional shipping charges. We will not mark the items cost as less than what you bid, and we will not mark them as "gifts". United States and International government regulations prohibit this.

Shipping & Handling/Packaging Specifics

I very rarely give “free shipping” as there is really is no such thing. Somebody has to pay. Shipping cost is calculated based on your location. As of April 19, 2011, eBay now charges me 11% of what your calculated shipping cost is. Plus, PayPal charges another 3.8% of the shipping cost also. So, now I end up paying 14.8% of the calculated shipping cost to either eBay or PayPal in the form of fees. On an item that costs $10.00 in postage, ebay and PayPal get an additional $1.48. Someone has to pay for it, and that is why S&H is now more expensive on ebay than it was. Please bear this in mind when you look at any sellers S&H costs. We are not getting rich on the shipping but eBay and PayPal are.

I package all items professionally. When necessary, I use bubble wrap and/or peanuts and strong boxes to help insure your eBay treasure arrives safely to your door! I use recycled materials as much as possible, so you may receive your item in a used shipping box. The S&H amount stated above, does include a packaging fee to cover my time and expenses in addition the shipping costs. On MOST items, this is between $1 and $3. For large and hard to package items it may be more.

If you figure my packaging fee (which is not even minimum wage) is too expensive, then you are more than welcome to pick the item up here. The S&H total cost and mode of shipping is listed above, so please be aware of it before you bid.

I double box most fragile items. I put plastic and cardboard on all paper products. Do not ask for a reduction in shipping and handling, unless you plan on sending me the envelope, boxes and/or padding to go with it. Time is money, and wrapping these items properly requires time, and the purchase and/or collecting of the shipping containers, or packaging. I do not just "throw" them in an envelope or box. I use Media Mail, First Class, Priority Mail, Parcel Post Mail, and FedEx, for shipping. The method of shipment is specified in the item description. I do however, retain the right to use a different method than described.

If I made an error in the description, and it is not what you thought it was, let me know, and I will refund your items purchase price, generally including the shipping and handling charges. (That is once I get the item back in the same condition sent. Insurance is required on returned items.). Remember terms like “good, very good, nice,” etc. are vague terms, but are common terms, that are used frequently by this market place. Terms like “new, mint” are not vague terms. I take numerous photos for visual inspection of condition, but you are expected to form your own opinion of condition or grade. You also can request additional photos and or ask additional questions concerning condition or grade. You must take some responsibility for what you purchase, as I do for what I sell, and therefore do not ask for a refund because of buyer’s remorse! Items purchased and sent to an address other than the purchasers, and items shipped overseas, are non-returnable.

Hyundai HB20 & HB20X debut in Brazil

Tue, 23 Oct 2012

Hyundai has debuted the HB20 hatchback and HB20X Crossover at the Sao Paulo Motor Show in Brazil. The Hyundai HB20 – which shares its basic underpinnings with Europe’s i20 – has, say Hyundai, been developed exclusively for the Brazilian market and comes in a choice of nine trim levels and with a choice of a 1.0 litre and 1.6 litre flex fuel engines with a five-speed manual, or an auto option on the 1.6 litre. Changes to the Brazilian HB20 (HB stands for ‘Hyundai Brazil’) include specific setup for Brazilian roads (which can be even worse than ours), cosmetic tweaks to the exterior and a different interior.
