CAR's review of 2009: the cars that die
Wed, 30 Dec 2009It’s been out with the old for a host of models in 2009, some provoking misty-eyed fond farewells, some told not to let the factory door hit them on the bumper on the way out. We pick the saddest and happiest goodbyes of the year. A sculpted drop-top with rear-wheel drive and a frantically schizophrenic VTEC engine. What’s not to like?
Toyoya iQ Collection & iQ for Sports at Frankfurt
Mon, 21 Sep 2009The 'Customised' Toyota iQ for Sports Toyota claim the iQ is the world’s smallest 4 seater production car – and the may well be right. It is certainly a tiny car – but very cleverly packaged – and is in many ways the perfect city car, if a tad on the expensive side. So cleverly packaged is the iQ that Aston Martin have used it for the Cygnet, and rumour has it that BMW will use it for the i-setta range.
Victor Muller sells Spyker sports cars to CPP
Thu, 24 Feb 2011Supercar maker Spyker is to be sold. Coventry-based coachbuilder CPP has announced a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to buy Spyker Cars from Spyker Cars N.V, the holding company which owns Spyker and Saab. No. Saab remains under the ownership of Dutch company Spyker Cars N.V. This sale is of Spyker, the manufacturer of flamboyantly detailed mid-engined supercars. CPP has been supplying chassis and body panels for Spyker since the brand was relaunched in 2000, and completed an agreement to handle full manufacturing of the current range in 2009 – the production of Spyker cars moved from the Netherlands to Coventry in 2010. The MOU, valued at €32m, will mean that CPP Global Holdings Ltd will become manufacturer and owner of Spyker – €15m will be paid straight away, with the remaining €17m paid over a six year 'earn-out' period.
