Concept Car of the Week: Ford 021C (1999)
Fri, 12 Sep 2014As Australian-born designer Marc Newson this week joined Apple, we can only wish that he brings with him the same smart-yet-playful approach as he did with his radical Ford 021C concept. Presented at the 1999 Tokyo Motor Show, the project began when Marc Newson was commissioned by Ford global design director, J Mays, to create an innovative interior. Their mutual passion for design and their enthusiasm led to a much larger project and Newson eventually delivered a complete working prototype.
2013 Mercedes E Class Facelift: The Video
Sat, 15 Dec 2012We have theĀ firstĀ video of the 2013 Mercedes E Class facelift showing the changes Mercedes has made more clearly. Not just the usual nip and tuck you’d expect in a mid-cycle facelift, but real sheet metal changes and proper upgrades as well as the usual lights and bumpers stuff. But however many photos we publish of the 2013 E Class, nothing really gives you a feel for the changes until you see them in the flesh or on the move.
Bonneville broadcast will add pepper to the salt
Wed, 31 Jul 2013If you've ever been to Bonneville during Speed Week, you know what a thrilling corner of the motorsports world the place occupies: standing out on the endless, blazing-white expanse of salt, hearing the cars before you see them, seeing first the roostertail of salt rocketed into the air, then the tallest part of the rear fin, then the car itself, blasting over the curvature of the Earth, followed by engine cutoff, popping chutes, deceleration and the giddy celebration of driver and crew as yet another record falls. But most people -- those with jobs, kids, responsibilities (where are your priorities, people???) -- will never get a chance to go. So this year, the Southern California Timing Association has made a deal to broadcast audio of the entire Speed Week live, as it happens, direct from the salt, on the fabulous internet.
