Lexus Design Awards open for entries under the theme 'Senses'
Tue, 12 Aug 2014When we visited Milan Design Week earlier this year, the winners of the Lexus Design Award were a particular highlight – refreshingly free from automotive references, the work was in the true spirit of the city's celebrated annual festival. The theme of the 2015 competition is Senses, which opens up the opportunity for designers to explore sight, sound, smell, taste and/or touch. Entrants will be judged by a panel including architect Toyo Ito, curators Paolo Antonelli and Aric Chen, and Lexus president and former head of Toyota design Tokuo Fukuichi.
Microsoft Windows in the Car to rival Apple CarPlay

Although details are limited at this stage, 'Windows in the Car' is set to challenge the already confirmed Apple CarPlay and Google’s Open Automotive Alliance, which is also aiming to bring the Android OS into vehicles. The city car is powered by an electric motor producing the equivalent of 170 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. The rear-wheel-drive, 2,635-pound car can sprint to 62 mph (100 kph) in 7.2 seconds and can achieve a range as high as 118 miles.
