Fuel protests halt Spanish car production

Last week's truck blockades and fuel depot pickets in Madrid caused car plants around the country to cut production. Seat, Citroen Peugeot, Ford, Nissan, Renault and Mercedes-Benz all have factories in Spain and most said they were affected.Seat production slashed by 40 percentSeat said its main Martorell plant was operating at 40 percent capacity, with production of the Leon and Altea models severely affected. However, the protests won’t delay sales of the new Ibiza, a spokesman promised, and assembly of cars in the factory is expected to return to normal this week.
Alfa's North America return pushed to 2013
Mon, 11 Apr 2011Alfa Romeo's return to North America has been delayed at least a half year partly because Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne is not satisfied with the design of the cars that will lead the brand's comeback in the crucial market, people with direct knowledge of the matter told Automotive News Europe. The delay also is a serious blow to Alfa in Europe because without the Giulia mid-sized sedan and station wagon the automaker will have one of the weakest premium brand lineups in Europe. The Polo emits just 87g/km CO2 and manages to travel at least 870 miles on a tank of juice., averaging as it does 85.6 mpg. The new 1.2 litre three pot common rail diesel in the Polo produces 74bhp which is driven through a fibe speed manual ‘box and features stop-start and longer gearing.
