The Tokyo motor show is famous for unusual concepts and the 2001 edition didn't disappoint, featuring some of the weirdest yet. Nissan unveiled the Nails, Toyota its Pod and Isuzu the Zen, but Honda had arguably the most intelligent concept there – the Unibox. With its square shape, truss aluminum frame, wooden floor and flat, glazed walls the Unibox sits on the fence between automobile and architecture.

Volkswagen, one of the biggest players in China's swelling car market, chose Beijing to unveil its latest E-Bugster - a good look at the forthcoming convertible version of the Beetle. We saw the E-Bugster in tin-top form at the 2012 Detroit auto show; now they've gone and chopped the top fully for Beijing. It's a two-seater speedster version of the Beetle hatch, driven by an 85kW electric drive system; essentially, the powertrain of this car is what will underpin the 2013 Blue-e-motion electric Golf.

Spring has sprung across much of the country, meaning heavy flannels now give way to white polo shirts--many of which will be crested with the familiar emblem of Ralph Lauren on the front. While we at One AutoWeek Tower prefer greasy T-shirts and ripped jeans, collared apparel does have its place. In that vein, Lauren's fabled car collection is taking center stage at a Paris art museum, and the exhibit will run through Aug.
