BMW i3 EV will cost from £30,680 – less than we expected

Mon, 22 Jul 2013

The new BMW i3 EV (teased above) will costs from £30k The new BMW i3 electric City Car is due to be revealed in production guise on 29th July, ahead of which BMW has revealed it will cost from £30,680 – meaning a showroom sticker price of £25,680 after the EV taxpayer ‘grant’. That price is for the pure EV i3 – not the range-extender – which comes with a rear mounted 168bhp electric motor, a top speed of 93mph and a range (in ideal conditions) of around 80 miles between charges. At a retail price of £25k, the i3 compares favourably with other EVs like the Nissan LEAF, which costs from £21k, and the Chevy Volt at £30k (although that is a range extender).

Hamilton wins Singapore Grand Prix

Sun, 27 Sep 2009

Lewis Hamilton take victory for a resurgent McLaren at Singapore The biggest losers of the day were probably Red Bull, who failed miserably to take advantage of Button’s poor grid position (and that of Barrichello, who started in 10th after a five place penalty for a new gearbox). Vettel managed to damage his car on the kerbs and acquired a drive-through penalty after crossing the white line exiting the pits. Team mate Webber’s brakes gave up on lap 49 and he went home with nothing to show for all his efforts in Singapore.

Toyota Hydrogen Fuel Cell Saloon revealed

Wed, 25 Jun 2014

The final design of Toyota’s Hydrogen Fuel Cell saloon is revealed The final design of the production version of the Toyota Fuel Cell Saloon has been revealed ahead of its arrival in the UK next summer, and it’s not a million miles away from the Toyota FCV Concept we saw last year at the Tokyo Motor Show. It’s not the best-looking car on the planet – the back, in particular, does seem a bit muddled – but it’s what’s under the skin that matters and that the FCEV is, subject to a proper refuelling infrastructure, a move forward for transport in a way BEVs will never be. The Toyota Fuel Cell saloon will offer performance and range very similar to an ICE car and, more importantly, can be refuelled in the same sort of time as an ICE car, which means electric car benefits with none of the range anxiety concerns that put most buyers off.
