This listing is for a complete WMS High Velocity intake and Ram Air box with seal.  Fits the 2005-2009 Mustang V6 with 4.0L and is the direct bolt on intake system with no programming required.  Here's more info on the system, contact us if you have further questions.  Note that the information below is mainly for the GT.  V6 intake system is the same except the billet section between throttle body and filter is round on the V6 versus oval on the GT.

2005-09 Mustang GT High Velocity Intake System

It was a long day in June 2004 when we first saw the 2005 Mustang GT at a SEMA measuring session. Our mission was to design our new cold air intake and have them ready for sale when the cars went on sale. From pictures and drawings we planned to build a replacement for the stock system with a tube off the side, new air box etc - just like all the other kits on the market now. All morning we measured, fitted and came up with a design that looked pretty good - but it just didn't feel right...We left the measuring session for a couple hours and talked about different designs all together then decided we needed to take advantage of the front mounted throttle body!

Well it took us several months and many designs to finally work it out but the wait was well worth the results. Check it out.

Here is an underhood picture installed with the optional ram air box. The billet mass air meter and filter are attached to the throttle body with a urethane coupler. The stock electronics bolt into the meter and stock PCV air tube snaps into a billet adapter on the coupler. The kit relocates the coolant overflow tank to the drivers side to make room for the filter and clean up the looks of the engine compartment. The ram air box replaces the front rad cover and seals against the hood. This funnels cold air directly to the filter from the front grill as well as blocking any hot engine air from entering the filter. Everything needed is included in the kit:

    Parts Included:
  • Billet Mass Air Meter
  • Urethane Coupler - Mass Air Meter to Throttle Body
  • Billet Tube to PCV Inlet
  • Oval Air Filter, Pre-oiled
  • Aluminum Bracket and Urethane Bushing for Coolant Tank
  • Overflow Tank Feed Hose
  • Overflow Hose to Radiator
  • Clamps, Fittings, Tie Wraps
  • T20 Tork Bit for Mass Air Screws
  • No Programming is Required
  • Ram Air box with seal

Because we didn't just design a larger version of the stock intake no programmer is required with our system. The WMS High Velocity Cold Air Intake does not lean out the air / fuel to make more power - the front mount design is simply a more efficient intake system. See the technical information below. For the GT 4.6 we do offer an option for a larger 95mm mass air meter intended more for radically modified engines that does require programming. We do offer a custom tuned Diablo Predator for our 80mm intakes and a SCT Xcal3 for our 95mm intakes. Our 95mm intake package with the SCT was the top performer in Muscle Mustangs Intake track test - October 2006 issue.

Install of the intake is quite easy, although more involved than most 'replacement' style intakes. Typical install time is 1-2 hours. If you can change your oil you can install this intake. Click here to download the install instructions for GT and here for install instructions for V6

Dyno Testing & Technical Information

Here is a trace from the Mustang Dyno datalogger. Air / fuel ratio shown in red and is virtually identical between the baseline run and the run with the WMS Intake. Most flash programmers lean out the air / fuel ratio to make more power and this is still safe to do with our intake system. Note the stock setup goes very rich at high rpm in an effort to keep drivers from revving the engine to high, with the High Velocity Intake this was not as bad.

The trace also shows vacuum present in the intake manifold, with the stock air intake in place there is considerable vacuum showing a restriction. With the WMS Intake there is virtually no vacuum meaning no restriction up to the throttle body. We did test the 95mm version of our mass air as well (that is available to use with custom programming) and it showed no difference in vacuum - the stock throttle body is now the restriction.

Muscle Mustang Track Testing - October 2006

Our intake was #1 in the October 2006 Muscle Mustang Magazine track test 'Conscious about Cold Air' - here is what they had to say.

'The WMS kit (95mm with SCT tune) gave us our best speed of the day at 98.68 and our lowest e.t. at 13.694 seconds...bettering the 60 foot times seen with the other kits by nearly a tenth of a second'

' The location of the filter was good for the lowest IAT (Intake Air Temperature) of the test, measuring a low 77 degrees, which is cooler than the outside temperature of 82 degrees when the kit was tested. ...because air enters from the grill the result significantly lowered the temperature of incoming air'

5.0 Mustang & Super Fords Testing

5.0 Mustang magazine did a test on 11 cold air intakes, including the WMS High Velocity system. Our intake was one of the top power producers on the dyno and the only top intake that can be run without a programmer. Of course the dyno testing does not show the real strength of our intake - on the road where the ram air really shines! Their power gains over stock do validate our gains and were basically the same as what we found on the dyno.

In Car Testing the Ram Air Box

August 29, 2005. We tested the complete High Velocity System with Ram Air Box in a car on the road today. This test was to measure the effects of the air intake system with ram air while driving, since this cannot be tested on a chassis dyno. Our test car was a completly stock 05 Mustang GT. The test consisted of accelerating the car from 50 to 100mph in 3rd gear (roughly 3000 to 5850 rpm) while logging the data using a Diablo Predator. Our standard 80mm mass air sensor was used and there were no changes to the program in the car. The outside air temperature during the test was 67° and altitude was 3800ft. Here are the results.

Stock Intake Wms Intake Gains from WMS Intake
50 - 100mph: 12.34 seconds 50 - 100mph: 11.03 seconds 1.31 seconds faster
Intake Air Temp @ 50mph: 104° Intake Air Temp @ 50mph: 68° 36° colder intake temperature
Intake Air Temp @ 100mph: 84° Intake Air Temp @ 100mph: 66° 18° colder intake temperature
MAF voltage @ 100mph: 4.2V MAF voltage @ 100mph: 4.3V

The test shows a significant increase in power as the car accelerates from 50 - 100mph 1.3 seconds faster than stock. The increase in power needed to do this is of much debate and calculation, basic physics says about 10% but we won't try to quantify beyond that. The ram air clearly delivers a colder air intake charge to the engine, this drop in intake temperature alone will increase power (approximately 1hp for every 11° colder) because the engine is breathing denser air. You can also see the maf voltage increased by .1V so more air is flowing through the mass air meter.

Lotus Elise 2010 Facelift

Tue, 16 Feb 2010

The facelifted Lotus Elise will be at the Geneva Motor Show They don’t like to rush things too much at Hethel. Maybe it’s the pace of life in rural Norfolk or maybe they think that if “it ain’t broke why fix it?”. But the Lotus Elise has been round a very long time.

Infiniti JX Tease – this time it’s the whole back end. Wow.

Thu, 04 Aug 2011

Infiniti JX Concept Tease 5 I know you’re finding it hard to contain your excitement as we reveal veil number five in the Dance of the Seven JX images drops away to display the arse of the Infiniti JX Concept in all its glory. And actually, the arse is better than we could reasonably have expected. As we said when we ran the last tease of the JX , we’d half expected the JX to be the even uglier sibling to the horrible QX (which is an uglified and titivated Nissan Patrol).

Range Rover Sport SVR prototype: official spy photos issued

Wed, 25 Jun 2014

By Tim Pollard First Official Pictures 25 June 2014 10:33 Land Rover has taken the unusual step of issuing its own spy photos of the new Range Rover Sport SVR - a muscled-up, 543bhp version that's been breathed on by Jaguar Land Rover's new Special Ops division. A new Range Rover Sport SVR prototype will be thrashed up the Goodwood hillclimb at this weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed and these photos are the first conclusive proof that the Range Rover Sport SVR will join the line-up later in 2014. The SVR name is the first confirmation of a go-faster badge for future fast Land Rovers.
