It does work, even has the dust cover!... BUT the insulation on the wires was rotted from age. I do not recommend putting it into service. If you do decide to do so you do at your own risk. If you do, just be sure to insulate the cathode wires well. Ok?

This is an unused x-band navy radar magnetron tube that was never installed because of cracked wire insulation which i removed completely. You can use neon sign wire for the filament hook up if desired. Since the cathode is the HV side, just use cheap RTV and let it dry completely before firing it up. It is usually used in pulsed mode to generate about 20kW radar pulses, but you can run it in CW mode at about 100+W or so for a short constant wave durations if you like, just reduce the tube current and use a small high volume cooling fan aimed at the resonator chamber. A fan from a used Casio projector works great for this. You can vary the frequency by changing the magnetic field strength near the cavity resonator. To do this either add metal to lower or use small magnets to raise it. It is a fun experimenter item. Use as intended at your own risk! Thanks for looking, see my other listings for more cool tubes,  lasers, geiger counters, and other odds and ends..
