OFFICIAL: Alfa Romeo 4C laps the Nurburgring in 8:04s

Fri, 18 Oct 2013

The Alfa Romeo 4C (pictured) laps the Nurburgring in 8:04s We wouldn’t normally report on a car lapping the Nurburgring in around 8 minutes; after all, the Nurburgring lap record for a full production car is sub-7 minutes, so 8 minutes seems almost a stroll. But the lap time round the Nurburgring for the Alfa Romeo 4C is worthy of note because it’s a new lap record for a production car with less than 250bhp, and puts the Alfa 4C very much on the map as a performance car. We’d heard rumours a few weeks ago that Horst von Saurma has managed the impressive time in the 4C round the Nurburgring, but Alfa has now confirmed the time – with the 4C shod with road-legal Pirelli Zero Trofeo tyres – was completed on 23rd September 2013.

Traffic Booster honks at drivers as soon as the light turns green

Tue, 01 Apr 2014

The Traffic Booster is a simple little device: a few resistors, some switches, a box with a cheap car horn in it. The schematics are here for easy home replication, dog-eared copy of "The Anarchist Cookbook" not required. But the apocalyptic infuriation it causes is priceless, and if deployed across a city center, the ensuing riots will cause untold millions in damages.

GM plants solar field at Chevrolet Volt factory

Wed, 11 May 2011

Looking to put a charge in its eco-friendly image, General Motors is installing a 264,000-square-foot solar field at the Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant that builds the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid sedan. The solar field, being built in cooperation with utility DTE Energy, will generate 516 kilowatts. GM says that’s enough power to charge up 150 Volts every day for a year.
