Touring Superleggera Disco Volante and Ralph Lauren Bugatti win at Villa d'Este
Wed, 29 May 2013The Touring Superleggera Disco Volante was the surprise winner of the Design Award for Concept Cars and Prototypes at 2013 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este. It beat the likes of the BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe, Aston Martin CC100, Infiniti Emerg-E and McLaren P1, although it should be said that BMW, as a major sponsor of the event, dosn't enter its cars into the vote. The Alfa Romeo-based sports car once again proved that if it's red Italian and with a Milanese connection, it's a dead cert for winning the prize, voted for by both the judges and the general public.
Jaguar C-X17 crossover concept revealed ahead of Frankfurt motor show debut
Mon, 09 Sep 2013Update: Video of the C-X17 concept in action added below. Jaguar has revealed the C-X17 concept ahead of its Frankfurt motor show debut, further underscoring the importance of an ever-growing luxury crossover/SUV segment. Looking a bit more like a bulked-up wagon than a scaled-down faux-truck, the C-X17 benefits from a stiff, lightweight aluminum monocoque.
Driven: BMW i8
Thu, 17 Jul 2014When BMW unveiled the Vision EfficientDynamics concept at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show, we wrote: "for our money, it's the first time a major carmaker has really attempted to communicate ‘green' technology in an aesthetic sense." Fast-forward five years and we've swapped the show halls of the IAA for a beauty spot on the north-west coast of Scotland. And, while the car's name has changed to i8, our sentiment towards this genre- and era-defining car remains. Admittedly the production car's design execution hasn't received the universal praise of its concept forebears, but, on a remote outpost of the British Isles, a Protonic Blue i8 couldn't look more exotic.
