The SLP Powder Pro Ski provides the ultimate in loose snow performance for maximum flotation and precise steering control. The effect in deep powder or loose snow conditions is remarkable. Steering ability is substantially increased. The improvement in flotation results in more front end lift which reduces drag on front end components such as the belly pan, bulk head, front suspension, etc. This increases the sleds ability to maneuver in deep snow even at slow speeds. The popularity and reputation of the Powder Pro Ski since its release has been outstanding. This ski has produced many customer comments such as: "superior flotation", "precise control even in deep snow", "the best skis I have ever used" and our favorite, "The best way to describe the Powder Pro Ski is to say that it is like going from driving an old Jeep to a new BMW!"... Johnny Unser. With the aid of the Powder Pro ski you will be able to climb higher, turn sharper, and comfortably put your snowmobile in places that you only dreamed possible before!

The Powder Pro ski utilizes many patented bottom design features to make this all possible. It exhibits a unique multi-level keel design to provide aggressive steering ability with minimal arm effort over a broad range of conditions. The lower keel (diagram 1) is the only part of the ski that contacts the snow in packed snow conditions. It employs many of the design features present on the Straight Line Tracking (SLT) ski to provide precise, easy steering characteristics with maximum reduction of darting on packed or groomed snowmobile trails.

The upper keel (diagram 1) aids the lower keel when maneuvering in deep powder or loose snow conditions. The sidewall surface area of the upper keel adds to the sidewall surface area of the lower keel to provide optimum steering control in deep powder or loose snow..

The Powder Pro ski features industry exclusive Compaction Control Technology (CCT) provided by Powder Control Wings (diagram 1) which direct snow under the ski and compacts it for maximum lift. When used in powder snow conditions, the tails of other skis on the market today drop into the snow rather than staying parallel with it. This creates a plowing effect which reduces speed, flotation and handling. These Powder Control Wings eliminate this plowing effect by maintaining proper ski attitude (keeping skis parallel to the snow) in deep powder snow. Also, due to front suspension camber one side of the ski will lift (approximately 8º) in a turn. The Powder Control Wing compacts the snow under it rather than allowing it to wash over the top. This dramatically increases the Powder Pro ski’s ability to turn in loose snow (diagram 2)..

The added flotation and increased steering control compliment the use of long tracks found on most late model mountain snowmobiles. These skis reduce the tendency of front end "Nose Diving" commonly experienced on these models during deceleration in deep powder snow. Control while sidehilling is greatly increased due to the additional steering control. These skis also help eliminate the tendency that long, aggressive tracks have to push through the corners..

Recommended for mountain/powder use, these skis work amazingly well in snowcross type conditions. When used on short track models in loose snow, they provide aggressive steering ability with minimal arm effort. This is possible because the multi-level keels do not increase ski pressure, but utilize sidewall surface area and their Powder Control Wings to compact and carve through snow in a turn.

The Chevrolet El Camino turns 55 today

Wed, 16 Oct 2013

When your author was 14 years old, his first car, a 1975 Chevrolet El Camino, arrived in his parents' driveway. You can read all about that particular swivel-seated malaise special elsewhere on this site. Today, that is not so important.

Alfa Romeo 4C on track with Giancarlo Fisichella (video)

Tue, 17 Sep 2013

Giancalrlo Fisichella takes the Alfa 4C round Balocco (pictured) The Alfa Romeo 4C – Alfa’s baby supercar – is due on sale next month following its UK dynamic debut at Goodwood, so to get a bit of adrenaline flowing in the veins of potential buyers, Fiat grabbed Ferrari test driver Giancarlo Fisichella and stuck him behind the wheel of the 4C to play at the Balocco test track, Fiat’s proving ground. And we have to say, the 4C doesn’t just look good, it sounds great and looks to be as light and nimble as expected. In many ways, the Alfa 4C is an Italian take on the Lotus Elise, but it manages to do it with a huge dose of Alfa flair, both in its design and its execution.

Top Gear Tonight: Alfa 8C Disco Volante, Mercedes G63 AMG 6×6, Caterhams & SAIRPC Jack Whitehall

Sun, 23 Feb 2014

Richard Hammond drives the Mercedes G 63 AMG 6×6 on tonight’s Top Gear Believe it or not, tonight’s episode of Top Gear – episode 3 of series 21 – see us already more than half way through the new series. So far we’ve had a bit of a poor opening episode, a cracking second episode with the McLaren P1 and Alfa 4C and a so-so third in the series with the seemingly fragile Zenvo ST1 and a road trip to the Ukraine in small hatches. But tonight’s  episode looks very promising with a bonkers SUV from Mercedes, a custom-built Alfa from Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera and a pair of Caterhams – one from each end of the Caterham range.
