CES opens with fewer big wheels, including carmakers
Wed, 09 Jan 2013There are some grumblings that the annual CES is becoming less relevant in this era of 24-hour news and instant globalization of information on the internet. And you can make a good argument that the relevance of the world's largest consumer electronics show is at least evolving, for carmakers as well as for other industry giants. Victor Muller sells Spyker sports cars to CPP
Thu, 24 Feb 2011Supercar maker Spyker is to be sold. Coventry-based coachbuilder CPP has announced a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to buy Spyker Cars from Spyker Cars N.V, the holding company which owns Spyker and Saab. No. Saab remains under the ownership of Dutch company Spyker Cars N.V. This sale is of Spyker, the manufacturer of flamboyantly detailed mid-engined supercars. CPP has been supplying chassis and body panels for Spyker since the brand was relaunched in 2000, and completed an agreement to handle full manufacturing of the current range in 2009 – the production of Spyker cars moved from the Netherlands to Coventry in 2010. The MOU, valued at €32m, will mean that CPP Global Holdings Ltd will become manufacturer and owner of Spyker – €15m will be paid straight away, with the remaining €17m paid over a six year 'earn-out' period.
Renault Kwid concept: star of the 2014 Delhi Auto Show
Thu, 06 Feb 2014Small crossovers are big news and the striking Renault Kwid concept car hints at another entry to a category that is expanding rapidly, following the launch of cars such as the Nissan Juke, Peugeot 2008 and the forthcoming VW Taigun. The Indian car market is booming, too, so what better place for Renault to unveil the Kwid concept than the 2013 Delhi Auto Show? The small and funky 4x4 has been designed as "a new vision tailored for new market needs," according to Renault, offering a robust design with hyper connectivity aimed at the youth of today.
