Ford moves upmarket with new Mustang, Edge and Vignale sub-brands

Ford Britain's biggest carmaker is fighting back against increased competition from budget brands from below and executive makes from above with an aggressive expansion, which will see it launch three new models by the end of 2015. Ford is about to introduce models popular in the US over here to stretch its product line-up above the £30,000 threshold. At last week's Geneva Motor Show, the company showed the new Mustang sports car as well as the new Edge crossover (above).

The first thing you notice when you step into Icon's sprawling, 120,000-square-foot shop in Chatsworth, Calif. -- past the fenced-in yard of Broncos of every size and Land Cruisers of every generation, past the 1952 Chrysler Town & Country station wagon with the DeSoto front end and a massaged patina of greens, browns, and ochres resembling a Cezanne painting -- is the smell. Hyundai i30 R Turbo at Geneva 2013

The anticipated ’hot’ Hyundai i30 looks like it’s arriving at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show with the turbo engine from the Veloster. It’s nearly a year since we reported that Hyundai were planning to make a performance version of the i30, with the 1.6 litre turbo from the Velsoter Turbo promising decent performance and up to 200bhp. Now Autoblog in Spain are reporting that a Hyundai i30 RS (or i30 R or i30 GT or i30…) will arrive at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show as a prelude to a 2014 launch.
