Fisker goes to China's Wanxiang

China's Wanxiang Group won an auction for Fisker Automotive Holdings Inc., the maker of luxury plug-in hybrid cars, with a $149.2 million bid, almost six times what Fisker was seeking when it filed for bankruptcy. Wanxiang topped Hybrid Tech Holdings during the auction, which began on Wednesday and went through 19 rounds of bidding, with an offer that includes $126.2 million in cash and $8 million in assumed liabilities, Fisker said Friday in a statement. Ford Mustang 50th celebration gets two venues

Ford is planning for a big turnout next year, April 16-20, for the Mustang's 50th birthday party. So big, in fact, that it secured two venues on opposite sides of the country: Charlotte and Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Those venues will provide 282,000 seats for fans of the pony car, as well as a boatload of space in the infield and nearby.

Volvo's Mean Green semi breaks records in Utah

The Volvo hybrid truck, a.k.a. Mean Green, achieved two world speed records at Wendover Airfield in Utah, one for the standing kilometer and one for the flying kilometer. It didn't hit its planned top velocity of 165 mph, but 147 mph is still a respectable speed for a truck originally meant for hauling trailers down a highway.
