This nice lower unit is ready to bolt onto your Yamaha motor and go! In great shape and guaranteed to work.

I believe it will fit most 150-200hp six-cylinder/2 cycle model Yamahas from 1997-2004, and maybe more, but it’s your job to make sure it will fit before you buy it. (It’s a right-hand/normal rotation and the shaft is 25”.) In very good condition inside and out… I got it from a local “Sportsman Marine” dealer, off a trade-in Yamaha that had a blown piston, and the waterpump and all gears were working trouble-free and quiet when the motor blew. I drained the old lube, which looked very good (NO metal shavings, no water) and put in fresh Yamalube. Airtight. Water pump looks/feels fine, so I did not replace it, thus (of course) make sure you have good water flow once you bolt it on your motor. (If you’ve never changed a lower unit on these, it is very easy for the average backyard mechanic.)  I painted it with Yamaha paint so it will be ready for you to put on and ride, but I did not do that to cover up any problems (indeed, you can still see the small nicks and scratches that you would expect from a Year 2000 foot). Seems to have relatively low hours on it… not any corrosion inside or out, and everything turns smooth and snug!

Note: the four small holes near where the trim tab goes are there for easy installation of a hydrofoil (Doel-fin, Sting-Ray, other manufacturers… available for $50 or so).  The holes do not interfere with operation whatsoever, but I highly recommend you add a bolt-on hydrofoil stabilizer fin if you pull skiers or have any hull-porpoising tendencies on your boat… they really help most boats get onto plane faster and reduce porpoising (bounce).

Of course the removed trim tab shows corrosion (included, see pics), which is its job: to absorb the ionization/corrosion so the motor doesn’t suffer. But honestly, there is no other corrosion! For a used lower unit, I’d say this is in way better condition than most. Shifts into all gears smooth/easy. (I’ll ship it in neutral position, but I think its best to put the lower unit into forward and your boat/motor into Forward before installing.) The “Saltwater” model is designed to hold up better in saltwater conditions; around here, we have both fresh water rivers and saltwater/brackish bays, but I think this one ran mostly in freshwater.

Check out my 100% positive ebay feedback (over 400 flawless transactions) and buy with confidence.  I guarantee it will work, but if you order it without making sure it fits your model, or somehow manage to screw things up installing it, you’ll have to pay the shipping back to me to get your refund.  Local pickup is best, as it will cost you $50 bucks or maybe more to ship, depending on your location. I ship/sell only to the Continental USA. I’m located 5 minutes from the I-10 Interstate, between Mobile, Alabama and Pensacola, Florida.

Jaguar XK and XKR Special Edition launched

Wed, 15 Feb 2012

New Jaguar XK and XKR Special Editions launched Jaguar has decided to give the XK and XKR sales a bit of a boost with the launch of  Special Edition models as coupe and convertible. There’s nothing quite like a Special Edition model to get punters in showrooms, and with the Jaguar XK and XKR perhaps losing a bit of their glow – thanks in part to getting towards the end of their shelf life, and the arrival of the bonkers XKR-S – Jaguar has launched ‘Special Edition’ models of the XK and XKR as both coupe and convertible. The new XK and XKR Special Editions are purely cosmetic – there’s none of the extra power we’ve seen in the XKR-S – but the cosmetic tweaks are appealing.

Toyota Hydrogen Fuel Cell breakthrough to be announced at Frankfurt Motor Show

Mon, 02 Sep 2013

Toyota Hydrogen Fuel Cell breakthrough to be announced at Frankfurt Motor Show Regardless of whether you think the electric car is potentially a planet saviour or not, the idea of powering cars with hydrogen is a powerful one; the holy grail of automotive powertrains. Technically, ICE cars can be built to run using hydrogen (and a retro-fit allowing that to be achieved economically would be a huge breakthrough) but car makers are heading down the road of electric cars being powered by a hydrogen fuel cell at the moment. In Toyota’s case, that means a setup similar to their hybrid cars, with a hydrogen fuel cell replacing the petrol engine.
