So step forward the new A4 Avant, unveiled today.The estate version of the A4 will major on sporty style rather than outright practicality, but the numbers are smaller (less thirsty than the old one) and larger (boot capacity up by 48 litres to 490, 1430 with the seats down) as appropriate. 'Faces of GM', one of General Motor's social media initiatives, has released its latest video featuring our recent collaborative contest, the CDN-GM Interactive Design Competition. Starring several of the winning students as well as the prize-giving event at the Detroit auto show last month, the video features a number of judges and mentors including Mark Adams, executive director global Buick and Cadillac Design. GM and Car Design News's online contest aims to find the next generation of GM designers by presenting a challenge for students to tackle before being mentored on how to improve their designs.

This is the Audi A1 Quattro, a 252bhp and four-wheel drive hot hatch that’s as exclusive as an R8 GT Spyder. Just 333 Audi A1 Quattros will ever be built so they’ll be a rare sight on the road – and particularly in Britain as the entire production run is left-hand drive, and Audi UK will import a tiny number only if there’s enough customer interest. So I probably can’t afford an Audi A1 Quattro, and I might never see one – what am I missing out on?
