VL Destino revealed - what became of the Fisker Karma
Fri, 10 Jan 2014VL This is the new face of the Fisker Karma, the luxury plug-in hybrid whose parent company went to the wall last year. But it’s not only the Karma’s gap-toothed grin that’s disappeared: its plug-in hybrid powertrain has bitten the dust, too, replaced by a GM-sourced V8 – a supercharged lump boasting 638hp and 640lb ft. Called the VL Destino, the wilder Karma will be shown at this month’s North American International Auto Show, aka the Detroit Motor Show.
UK New car sales hit 394,806 in March 2013
Fri, 05 Apr 2013The latest figures from the SMMT show that new car registrations in the UK in March 2013 hit 394,806, up 5.9 per cent over March 2012. The seemingly inexorable rise in new car registrations in the UK is continuing, with the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reporting sales in March 2013 up 5.9 per cent on March 2012, with a total of 394,086 cars registered. These figures mean that new car registrations have grown for thirteen consecutive month and are now at their highest level since the Government introduced the Scrappage scheme in 2010 to try and breathe new life in to the market and encourage buyers to opt for low emission cars.
CES: Welcome to the four-ringed, self-driving future
Tue, 08 Jan 2013According to Ricky Hudi, the head of electronics development at Audi, "Ninety percent of automotive innovations today are due to electronics." He should know. He's working on that final piece of the puzzle that elevates our Traffic Assist and Lane Assist and Park Assist and Whiz-Bang Assist into a cohesive package that, yes, gives us the self-driving cars our commuters and slackers have always wanted. Audi believes that we will be saved by technology.
