The new 2014 MINI Hatch (pictured) goes on sale this weekend We had the reveal of the all new MINI at the end of last year at the Los Angeles and Tokyo Motor Shows, and the new MINI One turned up on MINI’s stand at the Geneva Motor Show this week. And now it’s going on sale in the UK. Sitting on BMW’s new UKL1 platform, the new MINI may be more BMW under the skin than before but, despite growing in size, it’s still very much a MINI.

Fioravanti will be represented at the Geneva Motor Show by this, the Thalia, named after one of the three Graces of Greek mythology. The rear hump means a staggered silhouette, reflecting the rear seating which has been elevated to accommodate 'the most recent alternative energy technology.' Along with its unusual architecture, the sketch also shows a unique graphic break, with the dominant sweep and rear-biased mass reminding a little of the Mazda Senku concept. It will be interesting to see the model in Geneva.

The all-new 2012 Volkswagen Passat, looking to be a big player in the highly competitive midsize segment and the first car to be built at a new Chattanooga, Tenn., assembly plant, will come to market this fall with a base sticker price of $19,995, plus $770 destination charge. The 2012 Passat will be sold with three powertrains and a variety of equipment levels. “The 2012 Passat is a true Volkswagen, offering German engineering, class-leading standard features and superior fuel economy, all for a remarkable value,” said Jonathan Browning, CEO of Volkswagen Group of America.
