TRU Technology represents audiophile excellence in audio amplifier engineering. Their products are proudly designed and built in the United States and go through rigorous quality assurance to make each and every amplifier the finest. TRU Technology is 100% committed to absolute quality control and continuous product development in manufacturing to uphold the highest level of quality possible.
From the beginning, TRU Technology's unrelenting commitment to provide the highest quality, best sounding car audio electronics utilizing superior components ultimately created a platform for exclusivity. Believing in the necessity of a premium level of product, they have built their products with quality and innovative in-house engineering, ultimately resulting in some of the finest amplifiers available in today's marketplace. With the handcraftsmanship of building amplifiers in TRU Technology's facility in California, they are able to maintain such high quality and standards.
In short, TRU Technology's home grown products are built to the highest standards of quality, pride, and joy that a product of this degree should deserve, all while exceeding expectations and limits set by the masses.
The Steel series amplifiers have been designed and built in such a way that they have become a unique amplifier. With R&D, heatsink tooling, assembly, quality control and packaging all done 100% in the USA, TRU Labs has truly delivered a top quality product for a price that is unbeatable.
The Steel series amplifier implement many key features which allow the amplifier to produce sound with incredible sonic accuracy. Some of the many worthwhile mentions are:
- Class A Pre-Drive Stage
- Texas Instrument NE5532 OP-Amp
- NXP 100MHz Ultra fast Pre-Driver
- 1,000 Watts of TO3-P Output Devices
- 17,600 microfarads of Storage Bank Capacitors
- 13,200 microfarads of Input Filter Capacitors
- UR HEXFET power Tnverters
- Dual 36mm Power Transformers
- 3M Ribbon Cable
- Dual 80mm SilenX Fans (16dB noise floor, nearly silent)
- CNC Machined, centrally located Heatsink to isolate noise from the audio section of the amplifier
- 4-Layer 2oz. Copper FR4 Epoxy PC Board
- 100% Anodized Aluminum Housing
- 1% Metal Film Resistors
- 55 Amp + 55 Amp Unregulated Power Supply
The amplifier's centrally positioned heatsink not only allows for efficient cooling of the amplifier's output devices, it is CNC machined and serrated to increase surface area and heat dissipation. Also, the amplifier's air flow cooling system allows for massive transfer of heat. Using dual 80mm upgraded SilenX fans (16dB noise floor) to move air through the heat sink fins as well as draw heat from the PC board at the same time, the meticulously designed heatsink allows for maximum transfer of heat away from the amplifier, allowing the it to operate at maximum efficiency at all times.
The Steel series amplifiers use dual stereo (2+2ch) and dual mono (1+1ch) designs. This means that the amplifier uses dual power supplies for each set of channels, resulting in each power supply being electrically isolated from eachother. This causes them to function independently, resulting in zero sound compromise between channel sets. For example, on a regular Four-Channel amplifier that shares the power supply, when a pair of channels are bridged for an amplifier and the input voltage and gain is raised (raising distortion level) the rest of the channels will see this raise in distortion, causing all channels to distort. On the Steel Series, because the power supplies are isolated and do not see eachother, one can bridge a pair of channels for a subwoofer and not be concerned with raising the level of distortion across the board because it will not travel to the other set of channels.
The Class-A pre-drive stage plays a big role in the superior sound quality that the Steel Series produces. A class-A pre-drive stage is simpler than a class A/B design, and keeps the devices from shutting off completely. This results in better high frequency response, and much less crossover distortion. The amazing frequency response of 10Hz-30,000Hz with only +/- 0.5dB variation is one of the final products of the Class-A pre-drive stage.
Please also note that the RMS power ratings provided for TRU's Steel Series amplifiers are their absolute most conservative ratings possible. This means that on their worst possible given situation, they will produce their rated power. Typically, with the appropriate high quality wiring, they are able to produce an average of 20% over rated RMS power without any issues.
