New cars can save drivers up to 25%

These savings come from cheaper insurance, lower road tax costs, improved fuel economy and no MoT test. Comparing a brand new Volkswagen Golf with a five-year old model, the new car reduces the annual spend on motoring from £1689 to £1267, saving £422 in the first year of ownership.
Volvo makes breakthrough in battery tech

The Swedish firm is exploring the concept of lightweight structural energy storage components made from carbonfibre, containing “nano structured batteries and super capacitors.” This technology is said to offer a lighter, more compact solution to the problem of energy storage, potentially removing the need for the heavy, bulky batteries used in current electric vehicles. BMW spends $900 million on South Carolina plant to build the X4 SUV
Thu, 12 Jan 2012BMW is expanding its lineup with the X4 and growing its manufacturing base with a $900 million investment in its Spartanburg, S.C., assembly plant. "This is in response to rising global demand for the BMW X family to include the BMW X4," BMW board member Frank-Peter Arndt said. BMW says the investment will create 300 new jobs at the plant.
